INSPIRATION

The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”.

The SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.developed by the United Nations are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

Make the SDG Reality!

WHO ARE WE?

We are the climate achievers and we are working hand in hand with goal number thirteen climate action. Climate action is what we value most because without a good environment there is no life.

In association with IamtheCode we take part of a 12 weeks mentoring programme. During this mentoring programme, we work on a project supporting the SDGs and develop ourselves which we will continue after the mentoring programme.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We will plant 500 trees this year in our communities. We also actively motivate people in our community to help us planting trees so we can increase the number of trees.

By educating our communities and showing them the fun, we try to make trees popular and create a movement of planting trees.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

To contribute to a better sustainable future. It is one of the biggest challenge the world is facing  today. Our project will help the environment  as well as the people.

Planting trees is the best thing we can do to change our climate, we are passionate in this project of planting trees ,deforestation is a problem facing the world. It leads to ecosystem looses which negatively impact our livelihoods. We have a responsibility to protect the right of generations of species.

  • We would raise awareness on a sustainable future.
  • We would like to improve the air quality.
  • We would like to bring joy into the community by creating a nice environment.
  • We would like to connect people by planting trees together.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?

The Kakuma Climate

Kakuma climate is a semi-arid climate with average temperatures reaching 40 °C and only drop to the low 30’s at night: very humid but dry and windswept, dust storms, venomous spiders, snakes, and scorpions, outbreaks of malaria, cholera. Kakuma is wedged between two dry river-beds, and the occasional rain frequently leads to flooding.

The only plants that survive are thorny bushes and a few African flat-topped trees.

Keep the trees alive

We are planting Neem Trees, which are not trees that needs any special care. It grows very fast, is resistant to drought and cannot be harmful, the oil extracted from it can be used as a natural insecticide.

Advice we got from a Tree expert is: when we put the soil back in the pit to mix the soil with a horticultural hydrogel. We don’t have hydrogel but we are investigating possibilities.

To ensure the trees will grow after the planting, we continue to take care of them by watering them regularly and protect them with fences against the animals and/or a cover for the burning sun.

We also educate people about the  importance of trees and taking good care of them.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

For a sustainable future, check the 17 goals and take action!

For us in Kakuma, donate so we can plant more trees and start more projects for a better future.
